Context
A cardiologist in Lins, a city in inland São Paulo state, performs electrocardiograms. Each result has to be delivered and kept on file.
The problem
Every ECG was printed. Paper and printing added up to a significant expense, and the process was manual: an exam only moved forward when someone took care of it.
What we learned
The cost and the manual work came from the same place: printing every exam. The machine was already doing its job. What weighed on the practice was the path from the machine to the archive, and that path ran on paper.
The decision
Automate the path from the machine to a PDF archive, without changing how the doctor works: what changes is what happens after the exam.
What we built
An automation on the computer, connected directly to the ECG machine, that:
- saves the electrocardiogram as a PDF;
- releases the report right away;
- files the PDF under the patient’s name, in folders organized by year and month.
The result
Printing costs are gone. The report is delivered on the spot, and exams are kept in an organized history, by patient, year and month.
What came next
The client is still served by Diagium on an ongoing basis. That is how we want to work: every project builds on what we have already learned about the operation.
